July 9 and 10

July 9 and 10
Yesterday’s drive from Lake Lauzon at Algoma Mills, to the Pukaskaw National Park and Hattie Cove Campgrounds was a long one, 561KM.  We arose and left camp a little before 7am and did not arrive here until just before it closed at 4pm.  The scenery was at times spectacular and the roads were at times spectacularly awful:)  Pour Roci was shaken to her core!  She came through well, adding another myriad of bugs to her grill.

We enjoyed a nice fire and a good meal while dodging the mosquitos, played cribbage and went to bed early.

This morning we had coffee inside Roci to avoid the mosquitos and then donned our bug nets (thank you Glen for thinking to bring them) and went on a beautiful hike above and around the shore of the largest fresh water lake (by surface area) in the world. Vistas of Lake Superior stretch to the horizon.  It’s cold water creates a meteorological zone that keeps the surrounding area warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.  The ecosystem reflects this phenomenon in the flora and fauna.  It reminds me of the rain forests of Asheville except with a wonderfully rich smell of Christmas (wet pine trees). Well worth the added 500+ km to get here.

The campsite is in an internet dark zone but we can get service when on elevated hikes.  And the visitor center, we just found out.

Tomorrow we head to Thunder Bay.  Hoping to find either a fishing guide or golf course for Glen.  Me, I am much lower maintenance when it comes to entertainment.  Now, creature comforts, that is a different story. Haha, but Roci is meeting those needs:)
