Hemet or Aguanga? September 5 & 6

Leaving Dana Point we headed to Temecula and Roci’s appointment to get new chassis batteries.  That worked out well, we also did all the laundry and ate lunch.

Next stop, Uncle Greg’s ( that’s what our girls call him) in Hemet. What an adventure getting to his house.  His address is Hemet but he really lives in Aguanga.  We loaded Hemet into the GPS with his address and away we went expecting a 45 minute drive. Two hours plus later we fine ourselves on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere surround by a thousand other dirt roads.  In front of us is a large delivery truck very stuck in the ruts.  He explains that the last time he was here the gate in front of both of us was not locked.  Well, it is now and is forcing us both to turn around, or in his case back down and out the precarious way we came in.  Glen managed to turn Roci around with little to no room to spare near the stuck truck. We were on our way in about 45 minutes.  We left the truck driver, Kelvin, water and lunch while he waited for help.

It still took a few calls to Greg and another 45 minutes to arrive safely. The problem turned out to be not putting Aguanga into the GPS.  This sounds like a mild inconvenience but I thought we were going to have to spend the night there waiting for the trucker’s company to come find us.  We had zero cell service at that spot and felt cut off from the world.

Meanwhile, Greg’s little corner of the world was a beauty.  After looking past the completely arid landscape you realize it is a very different kind of beauty.  My Dad always loved the desert and now I have an appreciation for it.

Glen and Greg played many games of Backgammon, we had two very good evening meals while watching the sunset; and then enjoyed the night sky we once knew as kids.  We saw the Milky Way and many Constellations.

Yesterday one of Greg’s daughter’s stopped by for a visit; Lindsey and her two son’s Trevor and Wyatt. Somehow I did not get a pic of either Lindsay or Trevor! Lindsey looked great and Trevor was all boy and so cute.

This morning we left early for Big River.  It is on the Colorado River just below Lake Havasu and Parker Dam. We made two pilgrimages a month during the Spring and Summer to water ski at Big River “before kids” in the seventies. Glen decided to go check it out because we own a small lot there with a friend. It should be fun to be there 40 years later…..haha.

Yikes! No where to go!

Good job Glen!
